Philippine Government Provides $7 Million to Improve Water Service Efficiency.
The Philippine national government has allocated approximately $7 million to the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) for nationwide efficiency improvement program (EIP) proposals to finance a range of activities with government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) that perform a water service delivery function. USAID provided core assistance to LWUA for financial mechanism design and establishment of the EIP window. USAID has also helped build capacity for implementing efficiency improvements among Filipino water utilities. With strong support from Finance Department, funding was allocated by the Department of Budget and National Treasury.
